Sealants are used in construction to prevent the passage of fluids and other materials through surfaces, joints or pores of materials. They can also prevent the passage of air, noise, dust, insects, etc. and also act as a fire retardant component.
Sealant compounds are made from a variety of materials including thermostatic rubbers, fiber reinforced rubbers, PTFEs (polytetrafluoroethylene), resins and fiber / graphite mixtures.
